Interesting conceptualization that the 20th century had a focus of introspection and the 21st century proposal of “outrospection.” I would argue that what some (apparently the creator of this video for example) call introspection leads to, or toward, a caring or doing for others, and is not merely a me-first staring at one’s navel. Richie Davidson’s work supports this view. What I hope, borrowing from Dan Siegel, is that as we develop and teach our kids basics skills of reading, ‘riting and ‘righmetic (the three R’s), that we add to that reflection and relationship. That last “R” — relationship — gets to the point the video attempts to make.

  2. John –
Thank you for your comment. The idea of the 5 ‘R’s” in lieu of the three “R” as you put it is very intriguing.
